"Changing lives, by being a light for Christ our Lord."
WNC Lighthouse Inc. is a faith‐based nonprofit organization serving vulnerable children, adults,
and families across Western North Carolina. We envision a community where underserved individuals receive holistic, compassionate support that promotes long‐term well‐being.
Our work addresses health and economic disparities by focusing on social determinants of
health (SDOH) including housing stability, food access, transportation, and economic security.
These non‐medical drivers account for up to 85% of health outcomes, making them essential
levers for improving community well‐being.
The southern Appalachian region we serve is among the most impoverished and isolated in the
country. According to the 2025 Annie E. Casey Foundation KIDS COUNT Data Book, nearly
25% of children in Western North Carolina live in poverty. The region includes significant Native
American, African American, and Hispanic populations. Across our service area, an estimated
75–85% of children qualify for free or reduced‐price school meals, reflecting persistent
economic hardship.
WNC Lighthouse delivers community‐based solutions through housing remediation, pest
control, and food distribution programs that address urgent needs while supporting long‐term
stability. We collaborate with local churches, farms, construction vendors, schools, healthcare
providers, and community organizations to serve displaced families, veterans, and low‐income
households.
Through inclusive partnerships grounded in trust and community voice, WNC Lighthouse
strengthens collaboration, advances equity, and contributes to healthier, more resilient
communities across Western North Carolina.
