WNC Lighthouse CARE4U Initiative
The CARE4U initiative addresses access to healthcare by delivering community‑based, coordinated, and culturally responsive services that reduce barriers related to geography, transportation, cost, and stigma—challenges that are especially pronounced in rural Western North Carolina. The initiative leverages trusted community settings and partnerships to connect children and families to early intervention, preventive care, and appropriate referrals, ensuring that care is accessible before challenges escalate into crisis situations.
CARE4U integrates mental health and well-being, education, and supportive services that promote emotional regulation, resilience, and healthy coping skills. For elementary‑age children, the initiative emphasizes early identification of anxiety, trauma exposure, behavioral challenges, and social‑emotional needs, recognizing that early support is critical to long‑term mental health outcomes and substance use prevention later in life. The CARE4U initiative creates relationships with our most vulnerable children and embeds support within child‑ family‑ and school centered environments.
The initiative strongly advances the Well‑being of Infants, Children, and Adolescents by focusing on protective factors during formative developmental years. CARE4U supports elementary‑age children’s mental and emotional well‑being through age‑appropriate programming that strengthens self‑esteem, emotional literacy, healthy relationships, and school readiness.
